INTERNATIONAL ART FESTIVAL BAKU/AZERBAIJAN 26-29 MAY 2010

In May 20101 was one of twenty artists invited to take part in this festival. I was glad to be invited, because there are strong cultural and historical links between my country, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
The principal city, Baku by the Black Sea, has interesting architecture dating back through the centuries. The most famous example is the Maiden Tower, a 12th   .

Century Zoroastrian temple, listed by U.N.E.S.C.O. as being of international importance. Each artist painted a metre high model of the tower according to their own vision. These were then displayed throughout the city.

FROM ISTANBUL KIZ KULESI TO AZERBAIJAN'S QIS QALASI

A "Maiden Tower" is literally one that has never been conquered. Turkiye has it's
own Kiz Kulesi on the Bosphorous-a further link for me to Baku's Qis Qalasi. It was
no surprise then that this city, where people were so helpful, felt like a second home.
